Industry News – Responsive Web Design for 2013

Recently, there have been a select few websites, where no matter if you looking on your desktop, tablet or smartphone screen, it still looks good and you can see all the content. This phenomenon is called responsive web design, and its on its way to becoming the next big thing in web design.

With the continued increase in mobile web use, it is more important than ever for companies to understand how consumers are interacting with their online presence.

Mashable, who recently revamped their website with responsive design, cited that for the first time since 2001, PC sales are lower than the previous year, with tablet sales said to exceed 100 million.  And on top of this, more and more people are reporting they prefer to read news on mobile web versus a mobile app.

A recent article from Internet Retailer, discusses the benefits of responsive design, specifically for Google. By using a responsive design, companies will no longer need to re-purpose content and they will retain one set of content on any given URL across all devices, helping with search engines and rankings.

While the coding skills needed to accomplish a responsive web site are still cutting edge, it seems it won't be long until designers catch up. This past fall, Adobe even recently launched their new Edge Tools & Services,  which the company says is their brand for creating beautiful and mobile-ready content.

With the increase in mobile and the seemingly beneficial aspects of responsive web design, there is no surprise it is pegged to be the go to format for web design in the coming year.

If you have not yet encountered such a site, take a look at these great examples.
